About Pushkar Lake

A sacred man-made lake ringed by about 50 bathing ghats and more than 400 temples, in the centre of Pushkar town. According to legend the lake was formed by the lotus dropped by Brahma, giving the town its divine origin. It is one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites and remains central to Pushkar's identity.

Pushkar Kartik Purnima Snan

On the full moon of Kartik, Pushkar Lake becomes the setting for one of Hinduism's most sacred holy dips, drawing large numbers of pilgrims who believe the bath washes away sins. The ghats are lined with devotees through the night, with pujas, deep-daan (floating lamps) and Brahmins performing rituals. The occasion coincides with the Pushkar Camel Fair, making the town at its most crowded and colourful.
