AMRESHWAR MAHADEV is an ancient and sacred cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located around 7 km from Sawai Madhopur and close to the entrance of Ranthambore National Park. The temple is set within a natural gorge surrounded by hills and forest, offering both spiritual tranquility and scenic beauty.
The temple is believed to be over 1,200 years old and is considered highly sacred by locals and pilgrims.
It houses a self-manifested (Swayambhu) Shivling, said to be around 11 feet tall and made of natural stone.
The shrine also includes idols of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, and the Bhairav brothers—Kala Bhairav and Gaura Bhairav—adding to its spiritual depth.
The temple’s mythological and cultural roots connect it with early worship in the Ranthambore region, even before the fort’s construction.
Amreshwar Mahadev is located in a rocky gorge and surrounded by dense greenery, making it feel secluded and serene.
During the monsoon season, a 42-foot waterfall flows near the temple, creating a beautiful natural pool.
The setting is ideal for quiet reflection, photography, and short treks, especially for nature and history enthusiasts.
Mahashivratri is the most significant festival here, drawing thousands of devotees for night-long prayers, fairs, and cultural programs.
The temple is also a popular pilgrimage destination during the holy month of Shravan (July–August), when daily worship and offerings are made by devotees.
