National Chambal Sanctuary Winter River Safari Season

Winter is the best season for boat safaris along the Chambal river, a protected stronghold of the critically endangered gharial, the Gangetic (river) dolphin and the marsh crocodile. Established in 1979, the sanctuary is India's largest riverine protected area and straddles Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Clear winter days and lower water levels improve sightings of basking gharials on sandbanks and wintering migratory birds along the river.
