Guru Shikhar is the highest peak in the Aravalli Range, standing at approximately 1,722 meters (5,650 feet) above sea level. Located about 15 kilometers from Mount Abu in Rajasthan, it offers a unique blend of natural beauty, spirituality, and scientific significance.
At the summit lies the Dattatreya Temple, dedicated to Lord Dattatreya—a form believed to be a union of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Nearby, there’s a temple to his mother Anasuya. Caves in the area are said to preserve the footprints of the deity, and an ancient bell inscribed with the year 1411 adds to the site’s historical depth.
Guru Shikhar offers panoramic views of the Aravalli hills, the Mount Abu town, and the surrounding plains of Rajasthan. On clear days, the horizon stretches endlessly, making it a popular spot for sunrise and sunset views.
Adjacent to the peak is the Mount Abu InfraRed Observatory (MIRO), managed by the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL). It houses a powerful 1.2-meter infrared telescope and is one of India’s leading astronomical research centers.
The peak can be reached by road via Dilwara–Achalgarh route. Visitors typically drive to a base point, from where around 300 steps lead to the summit.
Open daily from approximately 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
