JAIGARH FORT

Located high on the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravalli range, Jaigarh Fort is a mighty and impressive structure built in 1726 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. Originally constructed to protect the nearby Amber Fort and its palace complex, Jaigarh served as a military stronghold, housing the royal treasury, weapons, and cannon foundries.

 Key Features

• Military Architecture: Built of red sandstone, the fort has thick walls, watchtowers, and a commanding presence. It stretches over 3 km in length and about 1 km in width.

• Jaivana Cannon: The highlight of the fort is the Jaivana, once the world’s largest cannon on wheels. Cast in 1720, it was test-fired only once and could allegedly fire a 50 kg cannonball over 35 km!

• Underground Passages: Hidden passages connect Jaigarh with Amber Fort, allowing secret movements during war or invasion.

• Water Storage & Armoury: It has massive water tanks, and the armoury displays an array of swords, shields, rifles, and ancient artillery.

• Museum & Artifacts: A small museum exhibits royal photographs, maps, coins, and weapons.
