The Kirti Stambh, or Tower of Fame, is one of the oldest and most revered monuments within the Chittorgarh Fort complex. It stands as a symbol of Jain heritage and devotion.


Historical Background
  • Built by: A wealthy Jain merchant named Jijaji Rathod

  • Period: 12th century AD (earlier than the Vijay Stambh)

  • Dedicated to: Lord Adinath (Rishabhanatha), the first Tirthankara of Jainism


Architectural Features
  • Height: Approximately 22 meters (72 feet)

  • Stories: 7 stories, connected via a narrow staircase

  • Material: Made of red sandstone

  • Design: Richly carved exterior with Jain sculptures, celestial beings, deities, and Tirthankaras


Unique Aspects
  • Jain Inscriptions: The tower contains several inscriptions in ancient scripts including Devanagari, telling of Jain beliefs and the builder’s devotion

  • Pilgrimage Importance: Still visited by Jain devotees today

  • Adjacent Jain Temple: A small temple of Lord Adinath is situated near the tower

  • Slender Form: Unlike the more massive Vijay Stambh, Kirti Stambh is slimmer and more intricately carved

  • Location: Near the Meera Temple and Vijay Stambh, inside Chittorgarh Fort

  • Timings: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

  • Entry: Included in general Chittorgarh Fort ticket
