The Shri Karni Mata Panorama is a modern heritage complex and art gallery built adjacent to the famous Karni Mata Temple (the famed “Temple of Rats”) in Deshnok. It was inaugurated in July 2018 by the Chief Minister and cost around ₹6.01 crore to complete .
The Panorama is designed to celebrate and narrate the life and legends of Karni Mata, a 14th-century mystic believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Durga.
Fusion of Usta and Miniature Art techniques — masterfully crafted by artists Ayub Ali Usta and Shiv Swami to depict Karni Mata’s divine leelas (pastimes) on giant panoramic murals
Located at the temple’s main gate, the installation features a powerful sculpture of the goddess holding a trident, flanked by her mount and symbolic rats (kabas)
The building’s style blends Rajasthani-Mughal architectural elements, using sandstone and marble to echo the aesthetics of the ancient temple itself.
Location: In Deshnok, right beside Karni Mata Temple (approx. 30 km from Bikaner).
Opened: 28 July 2018.
Ideal visit time: Combine with the temple visit. Visits in mornings or evenings work well after darshan.
Karni Mata (Ridhubai): Born ca. 1387, revered as a warrior-sage and protector—credited with blessing the founding of both Bikaner and Jodhpur states
Myth of Kaba (rats): According to lore, her stepsons were reincarnated as rats by Yama; hence, these revered creatures inhabit the temple complex and feature prominently in the art
The panorama brings these legends and spiritual narratives to life visually, serving both educational and devotional purposes.
Cultural immersion through vivid artwork and storytelling.
Photogenic architecture that combines heritage and modern artistry.
Exclusive narrative insight—it offers a deeper glimpse into Karni Mata’s story beyond the temple rituals.
Pair it with the temple darshan, ideally early morning or late afternoon.
Look for the mural panels depicting key episodes like the founding of Bikaner and the transformation of her sons into rats.
Combine with exploring the marble-silver temple, famous for its ~20,000 rats and majestic entrance.
