LAKE PICHOLA

History:

Lake Pichola was originally built in 1362 AD by a banjara (gypsy) named Pichhu Banjara during the reign of Maharana Lakha. Later, Maharana Udai Singh II expanded the lake in the 16th century while establishing the city of Udaipur. The lake gets its name from the nearby village of Picholi.

Structure and Geography:

Lake Pichola is about 4 km long and 3 km wide. It is fed by rainwater and the Sisarma stream. The lake is surrounded by palaces, heritage hotels, bathing ghats, and temples, making it a hub of cultural activity and natural beauty.

There are four islands on the lake:

1. Jag Niwas – Home to the famous Lake Palace, now a luxury hotel.
