Laila Majnu Ka Mazar is situated in Binjaur village, approximately 10 to 11 kilometers west of Anupgarh, in the Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. It is located close to the India–Pakistan border.
The site is believed to be the final resting place of the legendary lovers Laila and Majnu, who, according to folklore, ran away from their families and died in the desert due to exhaustion and thirst. Locals buried them together at this spot.
An alternative belief says that the graves may belong to a teacher and student, and the story of Laila-Majnu was attached to the site later. Regardless of the exact origin, it has become a powerful symbol of eternal and undying love.
Every year, during the month of June (around 11th to 15th), a large fair is held at the site. It attracts couples, newlyweds, and devotees of love from across Rajasthan and neighboring states.
Visitors bring offerings such as chadors (sacred cloths), salt, vermilion, coconuts, and tie threads to seek blessings.
Many come to pray for love, successful relationships, or marriage.
The fair features folk music performances, sports events like kabaddi and wrestling, and community meals (langar).
Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited during the event.
The graves are laid side by side, and it is believed that floodwaters never touch the mazar, even during heavy rains—a sign considered miraculous by locals.
Before the 1971 war and increased border security, people from Pakistan also used to visit the shrine.
The nearby Border Security Force (BSF) named one of its border outposts as the “Majnu Post” in honor of the story.
