AJMER
AJMER
Designed by Mr. A. Foy, a British engineer, as part of a famine relief project during the severe drought of 1891–92.
Constructed in the flat basin of a seasonal river to store rainwater and supply drinking water to the city of Ajmer.
The lake has a semi-circular shape, unlike the more organically formed natural lakes, which makes it unique.
At its full capacity, the lake can hold up to 15 million cubic feet of water.
Acts as a natural habitat for many migratory birds in the winter season.
Used to be a primary water source for Ajmer residents until modern supply systems were developed.
Even today, it serves irrigational and groundwater recharge purposes in surrounding rural areas.
Nature lovers: You can sit by the calm water and enjoy the cool breeze.
Photographers: Excellent for sunrise and sunset shots, especially with the Aravalli range in the backdrop.
Peace seekers: Compared to Ana Sagar Lake, Foy Sagar is much quieter and less crowded.
Couples and families: A romantic and peaceful spot for quality time.
Picnics and casual outings: Some shaded spots and grassy areas make it good for quick picnics.
Winter (November to February): Pleasant weather and bird-watching opportunities.
Monsoon (July to September): The lake is usually full, surrounded by greenery.
Avoid visiting in peak summer (April–June), as the lake may dry out and the heat is intense.
By Road: Easily accessible by auto-rickshaw or cab from Ajmer city (approx. 15–20 minutes).
By Train: Nearest railway station – Ajmer Junction, about 6 km away.
By Air: Nearest airport – Kishangarh Airport, about 30 km from the lake.
Go early in the morning or just before sunset for the best lighting and peaceful experience.
Carry your own water and snacks, but please do not litter – help keep it clean.
There are few benches, so bringing a mat or foldable chair can help if you plan to sit longer.
Public toilets are not always well-maintained, so plan accordingly.
Daulat Bagh – Mughal-era garden near Ana Sagar Lake.
Mayo College – One of India’s most prestigious boarding schools with colonial architecture (can be viewed from outside).
Nareli Jain Temple – A modern marble Jain temple, about 12 km from Foy Sagar.
Local food joints – On the way back, try local snacks like kachoris, mirchi vada, and masala chai in Ajmer city.
